Carrot

“Carrot” you may know (zanahoria), and you may have eaten “carrot cake” (pastel de zanahoria). The focus here is on an idiom and an expression.

First the idiom. If I “dangle a carrot in front of somebody” or “offer somebody a carrot” I am offering him an incentive of inducement (forever un incentivo a alguien) to do something.

There is also the idea of a “carrot and stick” policy meaning “la política del palo y la zanahoria”. Politicians often use such a policy to effect change, and sometimes all we have is a “no carrot, all stick policy”.
